Home owners to get CFs for renovations

27th Jan 2012

In an attempt to help owners acquire Certificate of Fitness (CF) for their
homes, the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) will continue to carry out the legalisation programme for completed house extensions and renovations this year, as it has not been previously approved.

"Obtaining the CF for their homes has many advantages. One of the most important is making it easy to legally buy or sell these houses," said Norhayati Ahmad, public relations officer at MPAJ.

She added that most complaints on home renovations are usually raised during the festive season, citing Pandan Indah and Taman Keramat as the areas with most cases.

Under the programme, only completed modifications shall be considered, noted Norhayati, adding that "those who have built additions or renovated the house's original structure without approval or did not comply with the approved plan can apply."

She also said that as a crucial requirement for the CF, owners need "a written letter of consent from the left and right side neighbours. Those who have additional extensions at the back of their homes will also need to get consent from the neighbour behind the house."

The structure should also be checked by a qualified architect or a Building Plan Draftsman registered under the Malaysia Board of Architects (LAM).
