49 families receive rebates for green efforts

The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has rewarded 49 families with up to RM500 in assessment rebates for their green efforts under the Low-Carbon Green Rebate Assessment Scheme that began in mid-2011.

Mayor Datuk Mohamad Roslan Sakiman of Petaling Jaya presented the rebates to the recipients during a simple ceremony at the MBPJ headquarters.

The programme is one of MBPJ’s initiatives to make a low-carbon green city and promote a greener lifestyle to its citizens.

Roslan noted that the city council along with other local authorities have pioneered the implementation of the eco-friendly lifestyle.

“Two more green schemes will be implemented which are e-assessment bill campaign and a campaign that offers free parking in the city for hybrid cars,” he noted.

“We are aware of the importance of green efforts to the city and these show our commitment in making the city an environmentally friendly neighbourhood,” he said.

According to Lee Lih Shya, Senior Town Planning Assistant Director at MBPJ, the e-assessment bill campaign enables the citizens to take part in the green effort, doing away with conventional paper bills and receiving e-bills, instead.

The campaign aims to save billing printing costs and problems, reduce carbon emissions and promote a greener lifestyle among the participants.
